Aloo cheese frankie ( Cheese & Potato stuffed wraps)

Frankies are basically wraps, and a popular Indian street food. This potato cheese Frankie is quite popular and the most common one amongst its vegetarian counterparts. I would occasionally indulge on these after my work hours. There was a Frankie stall right outside the railway station serving up both veg and non-veg frankies. At the sight of the piping hot frankies, prepared right in front of you, one couldn’t help but drool until that Frankie made it’s way from the skillet to your plate . Satisfaction for your hunger and tastebuds! Yum!

Dabeli is a popular street food that originated in Kutch, Gujarat in India. Hence it is also known as kutchi or kachchi dabeli! It is a common and popular street food in Mumbai too. It is easy to spot tiny carts selling this yummy snack, doting the cities busy street.

Sambhar (South Indian lentil and vegetable stew)

Sambar or Sambhar  is an integral part of the South Indian cuisine. It is a lentil based stew with the addition of various vegetables or sometimes just one vegetable is added. It is a perfect accompaniment to idli’s ( steamed rice cakes), dosa’s ( crispy rice crepes), uttapam ( pretty much an Indian version of pizza :p) or medu wada ( savory Indian donuts :D) and the likes. One of my favorite meals is plain steamed rice with piping hot sambhar, an omelette, some crunchy papad and pickle.Thoroughly satisfying!

Kadale manoli ( Manglorean style Ivy gourd and black chickpeas bhaji)

Kadale Manoli is a very traditional Manglorean dish, mostly served during occasions. Kadale, is the Tulu word for black chickpeas ( kala chana in Hindi) and Manoli is Ivy gourd ( tendli/tindora). This interesting dish with it’s combination of legume and vegetable, prepared in a coarse coconut based dry gravy is amazingly delicious!

Vermicelli Idli’s! Who would have thought of making idli’s with vermicelli? May be it’s common, but I haven’t come across these before.  So I when I first saw this on my FB foodie group, posted by Shobana ji who blogs at Cooking with Shobana, I knew I had to try this out immediately! Like most things that I dilly dally, in terms of trying out several of the recipes that interest me, having bookmarked like a million ( okay not million, but you get it, don’t you? ) I tried these soon enough!

It’s been a while since I last blogged. I had a lot of things going around, which included shopping gifts for our relatives in India.
